The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR has developed an opportunity for others to get a sense of what a person experiences with dementia, including Alzheimer’s. They created a simulator that utilizes goggles, shoe inserts, noise, and gloves. In my opinion, no simulator can mimic the fear, anger, and anxiety of the disease; but I believe it gives great insights.
I have the opportunity to experience the simulator on Friday, November 17, 2017. Attached is a link to the feature story aired by KTHV-11 (CBS affiliate in Little Rock, Arkansas) about the simulator. I’ll post my personal experience in a few days.

In honor of National Alzheimer’s Awareness and Family Caregiving month, Paul Douglas and I discussed Alzheimer’s, caregiving, and my new book, Undefeated Innocence.
What an honor to be selected to be the bearer of the purple flower and leading those who have lost loved ones to Alzheimer’s. When all of us who had purple flowers raised them high, I couldn’t contain my tears.
To those who carried yellow flowers, thank you for giving of yourselves in caregiving.
To those who carried orange flowers, thank you for supporting the cause to find a cure.
To those who carried blue flowers, we honor and respect your road through Alzheimer’s.
A white flower was introduced this year. Perhaps someday, we will be able to see a white flower being carried–by one who was cured of this terminal disease.
Mother’s Day and holidays like it are special times set aside to reflect on the beauty of those we love. But for some, those days carry a burden of storms and anguish. I spoke about my first Mother’s Day without my mom. She will always be my hero, best friend, and number one fan. She was the first one to hold me, and I was the last one to hold her. Our bond of love for Jesus and each other will never be broken.
I spoke about how we find Jesus in the storms, even as we celebrate a day given to mothers. Caregiving for my mama through late stage Alzheimer’s taught me how to discover God’s grace in the storms. I shared how to find collateral beauty instead of the collateral damage.
